A member asked:

Been prescribed hctz (hydrochlorothiazide) 25mg for bp and swelling. i drive commercially. will this make me unsafe in any way or put me at risk of failing a dot physical?

No: DOT wants to know if BP is controlled, your BP if not controlled on med could be a problem. This medication causes no problem with drug testing, impairment, addiction or any operation of a motor vehicle, does not appear on a drug screen

Should not: As long as the dose is correct, your electrolytes are balanced, & your blood pressure is not TOO low b/c of taking this medicine, I fail to see how you would not be able to drive. HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide) is a cheap, older diuretic ("water pill") that is very commonly added on to other meds. Caveat: the other meds may cause problems or interactions. Also, you may have frequent stops to urinate!
