Likely and unlikely: They will likely show you an ultrasound view of your baby if it is progressing appropriately. The procedure is not usually uncomfortable.

It will not hurt: the ultrasound really does not show anything interesting until 8-9 weeks and is quite interesting by 12 weeks. the arms, legs, face, heart and possibly genitals can be seen on a good ultrasound machine by 12 weeks usually. dating the pregnancy can be done earlier but it is a lot more fun for the parents around 12 weeks or later.
