Take as directed: Ammonia (NH3) contributes to hepatic encephalopathy (clouding of the brain in liver cirrhosis). Bacterial balance of the gut affects absorption of NH3. Rifaximin (Rifagut) is an antibiotic shown at 550mg twice daily to reduce NH3 absorption. Not taking as directed is less likely to work, and even worse, to breed resistant bacteria that won't respond to treatment later on. Best to take as directed.
