May take many weeks: After the bacterial infection has resolved, the lung membranes and cilia (hair cells) inflammation persists for weeks. This includes mucus production and extrusion from the lungs. Also allergies and reflux can cause hoarseness. Increase fluids and guaifenesin/dextromethorphan can help. If symptoms persist see your physician, a chest Xray may be in order.

Post nasal drip: There are two common causes of lingering cough after bronchitis in patients with a normal chest x-ray; (1) upper airway cough syndrome (postnasal drip syndrome) and (2) underlying wheezing or asthma. The former is related to inflammation of the upper airways and the latter is related to inflammation of the lower airways. Both can cause a hoarse voice. See your doctor for a definite diagnosis.
