Yes: Food allergies can cause hives, but only associated with the specific food you are allergic to. So if you are getting hives while avoiding that food it is not the food allergy that is the problem. The unintentional weight loss is not normally associated with food allergies and hives can sometimes be associated with other immune, infectious, or cancer type illness. See your doctor.

Not for chronic: Chronic hives (>6-8 weeks) are rarely if ever caused by food allergies. About 30% of chronic hives are considered of autoimmune nature. See allergist or dermatologist if you are so miserable.
