Tonsil stones: As the tonsils atrophy with age, the pits become deeper and can trap food particles (tonsil stones) occasionally and this can cause pain and even infection. Tonsil stones are not worrisome and can be managed by simple salt water gargling after meals to minimize debris from collecting.
