MRI Findings: On a conventional MRI it may be difficult to differentiate between a metastasis and other types of inflammation. There are certain patterns that suggest malignancy over inflammation. There are other types of advanced MRI techniques (Diffiusion-weighted imaging, Dynamic Susceptibility Contrast MRI and Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced MRI) that may be able to help but the gold standard is a biopsy.

Possible but not probable: I have seen lots of MRI reports and CAT scans which did not correlate clinically when we took the patient to surgery. The only way to really know for sure if it is a metastatic lesion would be a biopsy.
