Can an ankle effusion cause an infection and itchiness all over the body?

Ankle swelling: Swelling of the ankle can become red, tender, and spread if there is an underlying infection. This is called cellulitis. Antibiotics are needed. An isolated effusion does not usually cause a widespread infection or itchy skin. Have your symptoms checked out.

No: An effusion in the ankle suggest there is an ankle injury or inflammatory process. Swelling of the skin in the area may cause itching but it is not something the causes infection or itching all over the body
