Need DX: The fatigue and achiness certainly could be from a virus. Also the loose stools may be from virus. The stool cultures should give more information, If they are neg, further testing will need to be done. Sometimes other GI problems can began with similar symptoms, and thus the further evaluation will be needed.

Try to re-hydrate: Certainly a viral gastroenteritis can 'wipe you out'. Good the doc has ordered some diagnostic tests, since it is very helpful to know exactly 'what' the disease is. I suspect you may be somewhat dehydrated and if you try hard to rehydrate, you may notice subjective improvement in your strength. Chicken soup is a favorite since it has SALT and WATER - 2 things you need after losing those over time
