Physician judgement: Hi. The best sign that an appendix needs to be removed is an evaluation by an experienced physician. Proper tests and imaging can help confirm, but the physician exam and judgement are the vital first step in determining whether the appendix needs to be removed. Good luck!

Pain over appendix: People with appendicitis often have pain that starts at the belly button and moves towards the right lower part of the belly. Some have fever, poor appetite, nausea and/or vomiting. It may hurt to walk or when you cough. Those who have fever with both nausea and vomiting are more likely to have a stomach bug. If concerned, you should see a doctor for an exam. Appendicitis can be dangerous.

Appy Calling!!: You get a telephone call from your appendix saying "remove me!!" Well, actually an inner call that says "I started hurting in the middle of my stomach and now it's moved down to the right, and I'm not hungry and feel like (____)-the pain is constant and this all happened over one or two days--Help!!" When you get that call, see your doctor pronto!
