Proteinuria: Protein in the urine after 20 weeks of pregnancy can mean the onset of preclampsia . Its existence earlier can suggest underlying kidney disease. Diseases such as diabetes, and lupus, can present with protein in the urine at the onset. If you still have protein in your urine you should consult your doctor who might refer you to a kidney doctor. Kidney disease can worsen during pregnancy.
