My 1 year old son always gets phlegm on his chest where you can hear it he's always getting a chesty cough why and his to prevent it?

Cough: His cough may be due to a post nasal drip and because he has a short airway his cough sounds like it's comes from his chest. Use saline nose drops, and a vaporizer.At night have him sleep on several pillows

Depends: Many things can cause a chronic cough in an infant. If he's in daycare, it's pretty much a guarantee that he with have a cold every month. Other causes are asthma, allergies, GE reflux, and bacterial infections. His pediatrician should be able to evaluated for all of the above. How to prevent it depends on the cause.
