Non-productive cough: This can be quite annoying and definitely painful. For me as a doctor, I always like to know the cause - so getting evaluated can help. If there's no sputum being produced, a doctor can rely on other tests such as nasopharyngeal swabs. It would be important to know all your symptoms, the local patterns of circulating disease, and basic blood work that could offer clues as to your best treatment.
