Freckling: Skin cancer does not occur immediately after a sunburn. However if you keep getting burned, you increase your chance of skin cancer in the future.

Sunscreen: If the sunburn just recently occurred and this is the first major sun damage to the area it is highly unlikely for any cancerous lesion to be present as the type that is most common (basal cell carcinoma) is the result of repetitive significant sun damage. Monitor the area and be sure to use sunscreen daily of at least SPF 30 and look for one that blocks both UVA and UVB rays.
