Allodynia: Allodynia is a type of pain due to a non-painful stimulus (pain from something that doesn't usually cause pain). Both allodynia and hyperalgesia (increased sensitivity to a normally painful stimulus) are common in those diagnosed with FM. The exact mechanism of how this occurs is debatable but thought to be due to problems in both ascending pain pathways and descending inhibitory pathways
