Depression: Start with talking therapy (such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or insight oriented psychotherapy). Don't isolate. Spend time w people. Use your support system. Get out. Don’t stagnate at home. Get at least 8 hours of sleep per night & eat healthfully. Daily aerobic physical activity is a big +. Try acupuncture, tai chi, qi gong, yoga or meditation.

Yes: Yes, there are. You could try St. John's wort, 5-HTP or omega 3 fatty acids. Or you might want to start with talking things over with your friends and family. Or you might want to try aerobic exercises, such as swimming, walking, jogging, dancing, playing tennis, playing basketball or doing yoga or tai chi. But it can never hurt to talk to your doctor about your depression issues.

Yes: Home treatments include exercise, eating healthy, getting good quality sleep, keeping a schedule, and setting goals. Be cautious about herbs. St John's wort interacts with many other medications and should generally be avoided, If insomnia is an issue you can use Melatonin. It is considered generally safe up to 10 mg- with 2 or 3 mg being a more common dose. See your MD if not improving.
