Good long term memory but a very bad short term memory. what can this be a sign of?

Many possibilities: My first thought is to wonder about your stress level. If you are distracted, worried, or even just adjusting to a life change your short term memory can be affected. Depression can also muck up your memory. Medications, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, thyroid disease are also on the list. See your doctor, be open to possible causes and follow through on the work up.
