It depends.: ... On what is causing the ulcer. Most ulcers are caused by a combination of stomach bacteria and or medications which induced ulcers, such as ibuprofen, aspirin, or similar compounds. If multiple factors are present, ulcers could form within several days to a week. Usually, however, they former much more slowly than that.

Change diet: Avoid foods that can irritate your stomach like spicy foods, alcohol and caffeine. Also smoking can decrease the blood supply to your stomach and delay healing. Taking medication like antacids decrease the acid in your stomach which allows the ulcer to heal. Omeprazole or Prilosec is otc and is very effective in reducing stomach acid.

Depends: Some ulcers are silent, without pain, found during medical assessment, and the time they have existed is unclear. Some people have a high pain threshold and the problems appear chronic (months) when diagnosed. Superficial ulcerations can occur in days. One third of people on some prescription arthritis drugs have evidence of ulceration if tested in 3 weeks.
