Pain Management 27 years experience
Topical: You can apply either heat or ice to the area. The ice will decrease inflamation, the heat will help the intercostal muscle irratation. Also you can take acetaminophen for pain. Always have food in your stomach so decrease nausea. Some topical creams with anesthetic will also help, but less then ice.
