Wound: You have removed the dead tissue - that is called debridement. Healing will begin soon. To avoid infection, apply bacitracin ointment twice daily and cover with moleskin. Remove the moleskin or bandage at night to promote healing.

Bandaid: The goal is to prevent infection in the raw skin which has less protection than complete dermis and epidermis. Warm water, soap, rinse, and cover. Sometimes, a little triple antibiotic ointment can be helpful.

Cover it: Keep it as clean as you can. Use clean dry non-stick dressings when wearing footwear or walking. Allow exposure to air otherwise as much as possible and it should heal well and quickly without infection. If the redness becomes worse and/or you develop increasing pain and white, green, or cloudy yellow discharge seek medical attention.
