Many Possible Causes: However, most likely would be a neuralgia and these symptoms are often caused by herpes zoster (Shingles). If you didn't have any lesions in that area you still could have had zoster sin herpete which means you had shingles without skin lesions. Now you may have post-herpetic neuralgia which would present in the way you describe. See a PCM and they can start you on meds for this. Neurontin, (gabapentin) etc
