A member asked:

What's the difference between white matter lesions and perivascular spaces? there's a possibility to one mimic the other?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

MRI findings: Sometimes perivascular spaces look like changes in the white matter. They are terms used to describe nonspecific findings. White matter lesions are normally discrete, not nearby blood vessels, and sometimes have MRI characteristics that help us know they are due to a stroke or MS. It is possible that one looks like the other, depending on what kind of MRI is done, and who is interpreting it.
