It depends: Asthma is a reversible, obstructive lung disease that is usually triggered by allergies, virus infection, exercise and/ or emotions. A lot of children grow out of this. Some children continue to react to their " trigger" all their life.

Depends on control: Asthma management is determined by the frequency and severity of your symptoms as well as your baseline functioning. If you continue to have frequent asthma attacks on your current medication, or if you are needing to use a rescue inhaler on a regular basis your doctor may not be able to step down your medication. It is not a question of time, but rather how well your asthma is controlled.

Don't expect it: Teen onset asthma is rarely if ever "cured" or gone. It is a condition you must learn how to control and what triggers events.Find a doc you are comfortable talking with and develop a management plan you can do. It is hard to face a chronic illness as a teen, but this is one you can have a great life with if you learn how to live with it.
