Exceedingly rare: There are rare instances of anaphalaxis or GBS to the tetanus toxoid and with any such event, referral to an allergist for de-sensitization to the tetanus toxoid is recommended.That said, the incidence of GBS is so rare that the even in kids with a prior episode, there are no special precautions taken prior to standard vaccination with the DtaP or TdaP.

Low risk but yes: According to the National Vaccine Information Center (http://www.nvic.org), there is a causal relationship between tetanus shot and Guillain Barre syndrome. GBS is rare but must be identified early to be treated appropriately. Tetanus is a deadly disease contracted through inoculation of spores of clostridium into the body through a wound. As with any concern, discuss it with your provider.
