A member asked:

Hi. does our 17 month old girl need a tetanus shot? she was bitten very hard by a fellow school goer on the back through her shirt. it's red

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: If she has received the primary series including the DtaP given at 15 months, she would already be protected. Some don't give that dose until 18 mo so she may be due. Be aware that tetanus is not as common with human bites as other infections, so increasing redness, swelling, etc. may require other treatment.
