Less likely: Many women do conceive at and after the age of forty. But a woman's fertility is certainly beginning to decline by the age of 40. Some women wait until forty to start having children, then find that they do not conceive. Another issue with conceptions after age 40 is the increased risk for having a baby with a genetic anomaly such as Down Syndrome.
