Active attempts at pregnancy "for a year" or more, with an adequate sperm analysis with your partner requires a HSG (hystero-salpingogram" to establish tubal patency (open tubes). If your periods are "every month" , you may be just not testing for ovulation at the exact time. An HSG is a picture of fluid passing thru the tubes, which can also be a "treatment" for minor blockage.
