Gulping water: You can cause a spasm in the throat muscles if you are gulping down liquids very quickly. If water was going down your throat at a funny angle, the muscles in your esophagus could go into spasm causing pain in your throat. it is always good to sit up when you are drinking any liquid and eating to prevent these type of symptoms.
