A member asked:

Fil has rcc stage4, w/mets to head, liver& lungs. has rt. kidney only. now diagnosed with stage 3 ckd. what does this mean and what can we expect ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Chronic kidney dz: Chronic kidney disease stage 3 refers to estimated GFR 30-60 ml per minute. This is a large range of function. If estimated GFR is close to 50, then FIL has excellent function for one kidney. If estimated GFR is close to 30, then the solitary kidney is impaired. Special diet is essential to limit strain on that kidney. Expert renal advice is essential along with dietitian evaluation.
