There is no timeline: Betty, there are several causes of cirrhosis. Depending upon what the mode of liver injury is, there can be variation in timeline. Typically, it is a long process because cirrhosis means fibrosis of healthy live tissue after significant damage. But there is no way to find out how long it will take exactly. Depends: depends on the cause of cirrhosis, but often as long as 30-40 years. if there are multiple risk factors like viral hepatitis *and* alcohol *and* certain drugs - can be a lot less time.
