What are the pros and cons for prograf vs prednisone vs plaquinil for the treatment of undifferentiated connective tissue disease (elements sle)?

Cost, side effects: There are side effects associated with each med. Each could be effective for your condition. The key is to treat you with as little medication as possible. With Prograf, you have a strong immunosuppressant that can affect your kidneys -- you'll need regular blood draws. Prednisone has a host of side effects as well. Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) is relatively safe, though you'll need regular eye exams. Take care.

Connective tissue dz: Prograf is potent immune suppression. It is reserved for progressive well defined disease. It has side effects such as infection, nerve irritation, lipid elevations, and potential kidney injury. Blood levels must be measured. Prednisone is a traditional anti-inflammatory drug that works well but has side effects too. Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) is used widely to control disease. Eyes must be examined every 3 mo
