A member asked:

A pregnant pharmacologist working with albino rats, rotenone and formalin while taking necessary precautions (gloves and mask), am i harming my fetus?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Maybe...: Rotenone is a pesticide. It is toxic to living cells. It has been shown to cause problems in pregnant rats and may be a cause of Parkinson's disease. I would avoid it in pregnancy. Formalin hasn't been shown to cause miscarriages but some studies show an increase in low-birth-weight and birth defects. These studies were small so the jury is still out. Best to err on the side of caution.
