Yes, sometimes...: Ursodiol (Actigall) is a pill used to dissolve gallstones in patients who choose to not have their gallbladders removed or in those in whom surgery should be avoided because of other medical problems. Ursodiol works only on gallstones made of cholesterol and works best when these stones are small. Ask your doctor what type of gallstones you have and what size.
