Lactose intolerance: Milk problems can be confusing, because you could either have a milk allergy or lactose intolerance. Lactose intolerance is an inability to digest lactose (milk sugar) due to deficiency of lactase (enzyme to digest lactose) which leads to cramping, gas and diarrhea. Allergy to milk is due to making ige antibody to milk - exposure to milk proteins (not lactose) cause hives, cramps, diarrhea, etc.
