Go back?: Well, viral pleurisy, to me means, you have chest pain when you breathe after a recent cold? So with that in mind, here's what I'd recommend. First of all Motrin takes time to work and just because a few doses doesn't seem to be doing the trick, doesn't mean that it hasn't helped, just need to give it more time. If you have or the diagnosis seems wrong, then I would go back for a second ED trip

Dose?: If he is not taking 800 mg, up to 4 times a day, he may need to increase dose. If he doesn't respond, further testing, or possible a change to short term steroids may be needed.

See a doctor: Continue to treat the pain. However if your husband has taken any long trips, or has been immobile for an extended period of time or has had a recent surgical procedural, or has any symptoms of shortness of breath. He should seek more medical attention as Pulmonary Embolisms can cause pleuritic chest pain (pleuisy)
