Retinol is a cornerstone of the treatment, and should be ongoing, Hydroquinone can be used in bursts of 3 months. Other non-Hydroquinone skin lightener a can be rotated into the regimen. Depending upon the depth and the cause of the hyperpigmentation, certain lasers are used as well
