Yes: Yes, a cough is a violent spasm of the intercostal muscles and diaphragm in response to an irritant in the respiratory tract. If violent enough, you can cause trauma to the lining of the respiratory tract and see flecks of blood in the mucus. This is not uncommon.

Cough: Probably. Make sure you hydrate and avoid blood thinners like aspirin and ibuprofen. If the cough gets worse or you have a fever get it checked out
