Sleep position?: It's quite possible that the position you sleep in may be putting stress on your neck and neck muscles. Consider either changing the position in which you sleep/lay your head or get a more supportive/ergonomic pillow. Maybe even consider a heating pad to loosen those tight muscles and some stretching exercises to alleviate any stiffness you do still have.
