Could be viral.: This sounds like it could be a virus, which will have to resolve on its own. However, it could be strep throat if he also has a sore throat, or a food related intestinal infection. Appendicitis usually causes sharper, but not crampy pain. I would recommend that you take him to see his doctor to make the proper diagnosis.
