With ovulation: Conception would likely occur within hours of ovulation. A woman can have sex 6 days before ovulation and have a 3 out of 1000 chance for conception. Having sex closer to the time of ovulation can increase the conception rates to about 10% to 15% each cycle. But, again, conception occurs when the sperm and egg meet and that can only happen after ovulation - the egg is receptive for about 24 hours
