Wisdom teeth?: If you haven't had your wisdom teeth removed, it is common for the gums to get sore and infected where the teeth are erupting. If partially in the mouth, germs can get under the flap of tissue and become inflamed. When you bite down, the upper teeth will hit this gums and injure it further. See your dentist or oral surgeon. They can treat the infection then remove the teeth.

Pericornitis: If the gums behind the tooth become inflamed due to material below the gum or injury to the gums can cause them to swell and can be crushed by the opposing teeth. The area needs to be cleaned out and possibly the excess tissue removed, usually by laser. Usually a fast heal
