Shots after dog bite: After a dog bite, a tetanus vaccine (toxoid) is given if the last vaccine was over 5 years ago. Some people also receive tetanus immunoglobulin and/or post-exposure rabies injections. The entire schedule of injections must be completed to have the best protection against these dangerous infections. Don't skip any shots, and ask about the need for a tetanus vaccine if you are unsure.
