Chemical irritation: Itching for a couple of weeks after a head lice infestation and cure is somewhat common. However, some people have sensitive scalps that become inflamed by the chemicals in the treatment shampoo. Shampoos containing zinc (such as DHS shampoo) or steroids (available by Rx) are often used to help with this problem.
