See answer: A lice-killing lotion containing 1% Permethrin or a mousse containing pyrethrins and piperonyl butoxide can be used to treat pubic ("crab") lice. These products (rid and nix) are available over-the-counter without prescription at pharmacy. Lindane shampoo (kwell) is a prescription med and considered second line treatment. Malathion lotion 0.5% (ovide) and oral Ivermectin not fda approved in U.S.
