What is the difference between airway disease and asthma?

More general term: Airway disease can include a large number of diagnoses that involve disorders of the airways, those tubes in the lung that carry the air to the alveoli, which is where the lungs put oxygen into the blood. Asthma is a common airway disease that is a result of inflammation in the airways triggered by allergies or viral infections. Sometimes the cause of the inflammation is not known.
