See answer: A rectocele is a prolapse of the rectum into the posterior aspect of the vagina causing a bulge in the vagina. Often related to chronic straining or constipation. Vary in size and, if large enough, can be best felt when sitting on the toilet. Diagnosed on pelvic exam. Analogous to a hernia or a "dropped/fallen" bladder called a cystocele which is prolapse of the bladder into anterior vagina.
