Is it ok to drink red wine at 39 weeks pregnant?

Why rush?: Textbook answer = no. Theoretically, fetal alcohol syndrome only should occur during development, which is done by 39 weeks. That being said, you only have about one week to go. Why take the chance? Hope this helps!

Yes and No: Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is a significant morbidity affecting newborns and that is why alcohol is to be avoided during pregnancy. At 39 weeks a great majority of the fetus has developed and the risk is minimized at that age. But I ask you, why even bother risking any damage to your fetus? For that reason, I'd advise against it.

Just not good: while the fetal developmental problems won't happen if the baby is already developed, It just isn't a good idea at all. Reflux / irritation of the stomach needing to be sober during delivery And.. if a LOT of alcohol, there's inhibition of breathing in the baby, alcohol withdrawal and other problems.

NO: As a medical standard, consumption of alcohol in any form is not advised during the entire pregnancy period.

Avoid: Ideally you should avoid alcohol during pregnancy because if too much is consumed it can cause fetal alcohol syndrome in the baby. That being said 39 weeks is very close to delivery and a single glass of red wine is unlikely to be that harmful

Alcohol & pregnancy: It seems you are trying to lookout for someone else. Thats great. Tell her No doctor will ever say that its OK to drink while you are pregnant or breast feeding. Has the person abstained from alcohol the entire pregnancy and wants to drink at 39 weeks? It is much more prudent and responsible to continue abstaining from alcohol until after breast feeding (if the woman decides to breast feed).

May be only a glass!: A glass with dinner may be OK but confirm with your PCP or obstetrician.
