Sepsis...: Sepsis occurs when bacteria get into the bloodstream. It is possible for the bacteria to enter the blood from a cut or scrape. It is less likely if the cut or scrape is kept clean and an antibacterial ointment is applied. Keep it covered until it heals. If these steps are taken, it is very unlikely that sepsis will develop.

Yes: Any source of infection including small scrapes and wounds could cause sepsis. These are less likely sources, but depend on the cause of the injury, whether the wound was contaminated, and the immune status of the individual. Signs of sepsis MAY include, but are not limited to: fever/chills, rapid heart rate, malaise, and rigors/shivering.
