Yes and depends.: Kidney infection can get worse and spread to the blood stream when it is called sepsis and can be very serious and can be life threatening. How long it takes can't be accurately predicted. In some people it can progress very quickly even within 24 hours, others it might take a little bit longer. If you have high fevers and feel you are getting worse you need to be seen ASAP.
