Wear sunglasses.: Ultraviolet light from the sun can cause damage to the lens inside of the eye. Wearing sunglasses with uv protection can reduce your risk of developing cataracts later in life.

Aging: Cataracts is a natural aging process of the eye. The formation could be accelerated however, by having other intraocular eye surgery, trauma to the eye, steroids, diabetes, radiation etc. So best to protect your eyes from any environmental insults.
